NEW CLASSES ADDED

Beyond the Basics: Rifle added on June 5. This 3 hour course will be co-taught by law enforcement rifle instructor Jerry Harris. Course will emphasize shots from 10-50 yards taken from cover in a variety of kneeling, standing and awkward positions, as well as shooting on the move.

Our new Team Tactics course debuts on July 17. AT-2A Home Defense Tactics scheduled for Wednesday, June 23. AT-6: Pistol Workout is back on July 10. Registration now open in all these classes.

DEFENSIVE PISTOL SKILLS 2

If you've taken Defensive Pistol Skills, you are ready for Defensive Pistol Skills 2! The class includes a review of DPS 1 material and teaches more important defensive handgunning skills. It's coming up on May 22. We've updated the course and trimmed it from a 5 hour course down to a 4 hour course and dropped the price to $80.

COMPETITION PISTOL

A most recent IPSC club match at the Austin Rifle Club attracted an all-time record 95 shooters. The ARC berm expansion has revived competition pistol shooting in the Austin area. Our Competition Pistol 1 class, scheduled for May 29, is a great way to prepare for your first match and learn about IPSC, IDPA and Steel Challenge competition. The course includes lecture on the basic rules of each of the shooting games, practice drills and sample stages from each type of match. This will be the only Competition Pistol 1 class we offer this year.

POLITE SOCIETY CONFERENCE REPORT

We are back from the 2010 Polite Society Tactical Conference, where we ran a 4 hour block of force on force scenarios. Karl placed 3rd overall in the live fire match, and KR Training instructor Brian Brown won the shoot house side match. Pictures, commentary and videos from the event are here.

HOT WEATHER REMINDER

One more reason not to leave your gun in the car: the Comp-Tac website advises that heat deforms Kydex. Several years ago we had a student with Kahr P9 discover that the original Kahr polymer frame deformed when left in a car in August. For summer carry, a small gun in your pocket is better than a full size gun baking in the car, and a decent sized, decent capacity carry gun with you is even better.
