Correcting Common Shooting Errors
Course Description: This session will explain, by lecture, demonstration and drills, the common errors shooters make in trigger control, sight alignment, sight picture, grip and stance. The causes of errors, as well as techniques and methods to correct errors will be addressed. The class can be presented in several formats:
1) Lecture only - 2 hours. Powerpoint presentation and classroom work using red guns, SIRT pistols, Coolfire trainers, etc. No range time required.
2) Lecture/range hybrid - 3 hours. Lecture and live fire work.
3) Range only - 2 hours. Only the range component
4) Coach Development - 4 hours (lecture/range). This version of the course focuses on teaching coaches how to diagnose and correct these errors.
Topics: Common errors for each element of shooting fundamentals: trigger control, grip, stance, sight picture, sight alignment., breathing, concentration, and followthrough.
Length: 2-4 hours
Prerequisites: None (standard), experience as an instructor, facilitator, range safety officer or shooting coach (Coach Development)
Required Equipment: A handgun, a minimum of 2 spare magazines or speedloaders, magazine/speedloader carriers, eye and ear protection, a baseball cap (to deflect spent brass and keep the sun out of your eyes) and a minimum of 150 rounds of ammunition.
Optional Equipment: A rigid holster (AIWB, IWB or OWB) that does not collapse or close when the handgun is drawn from it. Magazine pouches/carriers.
